Yang & Yin Flow
We’re excited to share a new Yoga class with you all – Yang & Yin Flow, guided by Heather. This class will be on offer on Christmas and New Years Day at 8am on both occasions.
From 2025, you’ll find Yang & Yin Flow featured in the Thursday, 4.30pm timeslot. We’ll test this out for 3 months across January, February & March.
So What is it?
Yin Yang is a form of yoga that combines fluid dynamic movement with static mostly floor based postures which are held usually for 3 -5 minutes.
This class begins with a 25 minute Yang practice where there is continuous flowing movement. The aim is to heat the body and warm up the muscles, elevate the heart rate and move in synchronicity with the breath.
The practice isn’t meant to be about precision or aesthetically correct postures. It’s more about just moving your body and enjoying the process!
If you come on a regular basis to a Yin Yang class you become more familiar with the different Yang sequences and it’s really fun!
While it requires effort, it is not quite as demanding as some vinyasa practices and therefore accessible to most regardless of fitness level.
By the end of the Yang sequences, you are ready and prepared to transition into the deeply nourishing and restful Yin part of the practice.
The focus switches from contracting and releasing muscles to tensioning and stressing (in a good way) the connective tissues of the body, the ligaments, bones and fascial bags that wrap around the muscles.
A great aspect of practicing Yang flow first up is it can be helpful in moving you into a deeper more meditative experience once in your Yin part of the practice.
